The peaceful residents of pre-World War II Prague were unprepared for the cacophony of lockstep Nazi troops that descended upon their homes. Assigned to study and catalogue the historic architecture of Prague, a German officer, Horst, moves into the requisitioned apartment below a young Jewish woman, Anna. She is an accomplished violinist whose playing soothes his artistic soul. When he befriends her, unforeseen consequences magnify their danger. Will they survive or succumb to the ravages of war? I'll never tell. You'll have to buy the book to find out, but I will say this book sings with poetic prose. What a fantastic book!
